Fresh Bucks provides extra buying power for people with SNAP benefits (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, known as “food stamps” and often referred to as “EBT”). What is Fresh Bucks?
Fresh Bucks provides extra buying power for people with SNAP benefits (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, known as “food stamps” and often referred to as “EBT”). By matching the dollars spent in food stamp benefits every time they shop at a Fresh Bucks-participating market (full list of participating markets on all outreach materials), SNAP shoppers are able to purchase more fresh, healthy produce – all from local farmers.
How Does it Work?
SNAP shoppers can go to any of the participating locations, visit the information booth (look for the Fresh Bucks sign!), swipe their SNAP card for the amount they wish to spend that day, and receive a dollar-for-dollar match in Fresh Bucks currency up to $10 each market day in Seattle! Fresh Bucks can be used to buy produce items, including:
- Veggie Starts – to grow at home!
When Can Shoppers Get and Spend Fresh Bucks?
Fresh Bucks is now available year-round in Seattle. Any open farmers market or participating farm stand will provide Fresh Bucks to SNAP shoppers; they may be used at any participating market, regardless of where shoppers got their Fresh Bucks. Four farmers markets operate year round; most other farmers markets are open May – late September/October. Most farm stands are open June – October in 2015.
