Washington Information Network 211 held their 10-Year Anniversary event on January 31, 2016. The memorable event was held at the Washington State Governor’s Mansion in Olympia. The evening event was filled with stories of WIN211’s history, pride in its achievements, recognition of those who paved the way for the 211 system in Washington and a bit of fun and whimsy.
The night started off with a mix of classical and jazz piano music played by the talented Valkyrie Benson followed by an exceptional assortment of appetizers served by the Governor’s Chefs and a special WIN 211 Anniversary cake.
A history of WIN211 and the implementation of 211 in the state was shared by Dennis Smith, Retired CEO, President of United Way of Snohomish County and WIN211’s first Board Chair. (Did you know that Governor Inslee, then Representative Inslee, took the first official 211 call on 2-11-2006?)
Linda Crerar, WIN211 Board Member and Chair of the 10 Year Anniversary Planning Committee, was joined by Chris Spaulding and Ying Wang, Masterworks Singers, in a rendition of Happy Birthday WIN211.
Master of Ceremonies and current WIN211 Board Chair, Bill Mitzle, shared the future of WIN211, its newly adopted mission of “People getting the help they need when they need it” and WIN211’s five areas of focus in the coming year.
Tim Sullivan, WIN211 Manager, read a proclamation from Governor Inslee claiming January 31, 2016 as WIN211 Day which was accompanied by resolutions in both the House and Senate recognizing WIN211 as well.
The day was truly a memorable day for WIN 211, not only because of achieving 10 years of service to the people of Washington but because WIN211 introduced bills in both the Senate and House that will provide much needed stable funding that will ensure the highest level of 2-1-1 service for years to come.
